YMCA Camp of Maine is founded on Christian principles that confirm the importance of each individual. Using the Core Values (Caring, Honesty, Respect, Responsibility), the camp experience of growing, learning and helping others provides memories that last a lifetime. Increased social growth, awareness, and experiences, help campers assume leadership roles at camp with skills that transfer to school and community groups.
Campers are assigned to cabins based on gender and age. Counselors are also assigned to each cabin and act as role-models, mentors, parents, and confidant. Cabins are the places called home while at camp - the place to connect with friends, learn about responsibility and cohabitation, and have fun.
Daily assignments are given to cabins to help maintain the cleanliness of the Units and Camp. Campers have responsibilities to maintain cabin and personal cleanliness, to set and clear the cabin's table in the Dining Hall, to get themselves from one activity to another, and to participate in the community. Counselors are always around to offer gentle reminders and help when needed.
Although campers individually choose their Activity Schedule, they always come back to the cabin periodically throughout the day to check in. Most meals are spent around the table in the Dining Hall with cabin groups.
