The YMCA Camp of Maine offers a unique opportunity for those individuals looking to gain experience working with children ages 8 - 15. Enjoy the summer and have fun on Lake Cobbosseecontee in Winthrop, Maine.

Basic Guidelines and Information for Application:

  • YMCA Camp summer contract season is from June 16, 2019 – August 10, 2019
  • Minimum age for a Senior Cabin and Activity Leader is 18 as of June 1, 2019
  • Minimum age for a Junior Cabin and Activity Leader is 17 as of June 1, 2019
  • All positions require camp staff to live on property, unless authorized by the Director
  • Staff Members who are not US Citizens need to be 18 years old by date of hire and obtain a J-1 Visa by a sponsoring agency.

The online staff application is HERE. After setting up your user name (email) and password, go through the steps and complete the application. The names and email addresses of references are required to complete the application. After hitting submit, references will be automatically sent an online form that will be linked to you application once the recommendation is complete. Once hired, additionally required paperwork will be accessible through the CampInTouch account established during the initial log-in.

Returning Staff are required to submit one professional (teacher, coach, mentor, employer) and one personal (parent, guardian, close family friend) references different from last year. New Staff Applicants are required to submit two professional (teacher, coach, mentor, employer) and one personal (parent, guardian, close family friend) references.

Available positions
Cabin Counselors and Lifeguards

June 16 – August 10: We are looking for cabin leaders who enjoy working with children ages 8-15 in a resident camp setting. Candidates should be enthusiastic and excellent role models to the children who attend camp. Cabin leaders will be responsible for leading, supervising and residing with 6-8 campers in a cabin. Counselors also teach classes like arts & crafts, pottery, outdoor education and camping, swimming, volleyball, sailing, canoeing, kayaking, challenge course, tennis, archery, basketball, soccer, yoga, improv theater and more!

Camp Health Care Providers
Dr.; DO.; RN; LPN; A-EMT; or, EMT.

June 16 - August 10: Be a part of the Health Care Team to provide routine medical care and respond to camp emergencies. Work closely with the Health Care Team to keep the community safe. Time commitments can be scheduled based on availability and need. Housing and meals provide. Opportunity to bring family members to camp ages 8-15.

Counselor In Training (CIT)
Prior Completion of LIT Program

Group 1: June 23 - July 13; or, Group 2: July 14 - August 10: The CIT program is the next step of Leadership Development as campers become counselors. Invited participants are required to return 2 professional and 1 personal reference. The "application process" is to provide candidates with an opportunity to practice applying for a job and collecting recommendations.

  • The mandatory Staff Training Week will be held June 16 - June 22. Campers will arrive on June 23.

The last day for most summer staff is August 10. Work Agreements will conclude at 8pm.

If you are applying to be a lifeguard, and you are not yet certified, we strongly encourage you to become certified before June. If you are unable to do this, there will be a Lifeguard Certification Course at YCamp from June 5 - June 7.
