Leader In Training (LIT)
LIT's play an important role in camp and learn how to be positive leaders with their unique personality. Participants are typically experienced campers who are developing as leaders in their own communities and at YMCA Camp of Maine. Strong community leaders emerge from the program that carry the torches of YMCA Camp of Maine's traditional program. Space is limited in this program so every participant can experience the personalized, intentional program.
The program schedule for LIT's is full of activities that help the individual explore their own leadership style, develop skills for leading small and large groups, and increase their capacity to lead at Camp and at home. LIT's are evaluated throughout their experience so they can grow, learn, and explore. It is important that everyone is encouraged to grow their capacity to lead based on their own talents and desires.
Role models pay an integral role in all of our development. Counselors at YMCA Camp of Maine are no different. LIT's learn the power of role modeling and the importance of living with the four core values (Respect, Responsibility, Honesty, Caring) and leading with them to encourage a positive environment.
LIT's need to be 15 years old by June 1 and have completed Grade 9. International campers wanting to participate in the LIT program need to be 16 years old by June 1.
Interested participants need to register for the LIT program through the Camper Registration Form along with a $200
Counselor In Training (CIT)
(This program is previously known as "Program Assistant" (PA))
Successful LIT participants will be invited back to participate as a CIT during the next summer. Because of the vast interest and competitive nature of this program, there are limited spaces available for campers who have not completed the LIT program.
CIT's continue their personal journey of Leadership Development while honing in on specific Camp Counselor skills. Everyone has their own leadership desires and aspirations. This program helps participants grow as an individual while they increase their leadership potential in all aspects of their life.
