LIT's play an important role in camp. They are experienced campers who are developing as leaders at YMCA Camp of Maine and in their own communities. Successful participants will be invited back to participate as a Program Assistant (PA) next summer. Strong counselors emerge from the program that carry the torches of YMCA Camp of Maine's traditional program. Space is limited in this program so every participant can experience the personalized, intentional program.
The program schedule for LIT's is full of activities that help the individual explore their own leadership style, develop skills for leading small and large groups, and increase their capacity to lead at camp and at home. LIT's are evaluated throughout their experience so they can grow, learn, and explore. It is important that everyone is encouraged to grow their capacity to lead based on their own talents and desires.
Counselors at YMCA Camp of Maine are role models for campers. LIT's learn the power of role modeling and the importance of living with the four core values (Respect, Responsibility, Honesty, Caring) and leading with them to encourage a positive environment.
LIT's need to be 15 years old by June 1 and have completed Grade 9. International campers wanting to participate in the LIT program need to be 16 years old by June 1.
Interested participants need to register for the LIT program through the Camper Registration Form along with a 50% deposit to:
