YMCA’s across the country have implemented programs that promote healthy eating and active lifestyles. At YMCA Camp of Maine, outdoor activities are paramount to the daily schedule. Whether campers are walking to the Dining Hall and activity periods, or going to Pottery and playing on the Sports Fields, activity and movement are inherent in the camp routine.
Program choices and Dining Hall food encourages campers to make healthy life style choices through choice, exercise, and education. Counselors bring a careful and purposeful approach. Education and leading by example are used to model wholesome nutrition habits and active life style choices. The long term goal of this program is to improve the overall health of our community.
Camper elected activities include sessions of skills, fun, friendship, learning, leading and activity. Campers and counselors interact together all day. Schedules create opportunities for campers to be in contact with many other campers and counselors throughout their day. Cabins are the basis of the camp community - a place to connect, a group to identify with, and cabin counselors to have as role models. Creating friendships, developing leaders, and increasing self-confidence are the goals of YMCA Camp of Maine's programming.
