Since the Camp’s last capital campaign, there have been many changes to American camping standards. What may have been acceptable forty years ago does not begin meet the expectations of campers and their families today. Y Camp needs new bathroom and shower facilities to meet capacity, provide more privacy and allow for flexible use when variations occur in camper enrollment. Nearly all cabins need to be upgraded. These improvements include new-shingled roofs, new doors and windows, exterior half-log siding, interior modifications such as improved lighting, and hard wiring of fire alarms to improve safety.

In addition, the Camp has not been able to generate sufficient capital dollars to make necessary and ongoing improvements to its facilities and grounds. The tennis and basketball courts are nearly unplayable due to breaks in the pavement caused by years of use and winter exposure. Repair of main Camp roads and power lines is essential. Most major walking trails in Camp need to be resurfaced. Culverts need to be replaced and new culverts need to be added in certain areas to reduce occasional flooding and erosion.
Now is the time to revitalize the YMCA Camp of Maine.
