Letter from the CVO

Greetings Y Camp Friends Spring 2016

The Board of Directors is looking forward to our 2016 camp season and the beginning of our second century of camping with much optimism and enthusiasm. There are many good things in place to enable our campers and staff to have the great camping experience so many have had in our first one hundred years.

Beautiful Lake Cobbosseecontee and our unspoiled natural setting still provide a place where our youth can be inspired to grow in body, mind and spirit. Our camp provides the kind of character building and leadership opportunities necessary for our youth to succeed in today’s world. Relationships with peers and staff are a fundamental aspect of the camp's programming with teamwork and personal integrity in our day to day activities are encouraged and recognized. A camper learns that personal achievement is obtained with the support of many and celebrated by all.

Our new camp director, Jeff Gleason, has been working tirelessly since he joined us last September, preparing the camp and his team for our 2016 camping season. He has built on the positive legacy of his predecessor, Barry Costa, by initiating personal contacts and working relationships with the many individuals and vendors involved in making the camp run smoothly. Continuity in staffing, programming and daily necessities will remain consistent with our recent camp traditions and mission. Jeff is very much aware of our camps legacy and is an outstanding ambassador for the camp, its community and the National Y organization.

I am pleased to say the board has initiated two successful alumni activities so far this year. One being a social gathering in February and the other being a volunteer clean up day this April. The Board values the many contributions that our Alumni and friends continue to give to the camp. Our next alumni event is August 6th, our annual Alumni Day. So mark your calendar and plan to join us for a day of reconnecting with Y friends, have a meal in the dinning hall and enjoy the fresh air, lake and pines.

The Board appreciates the dedication and efforts of our year around team and the many seasonal staff that interacts and cares so well for our campers 24/7. This camp is a great example of what teamwork can achieve, ‘the best camping experience in Maine’.

Have a great summer
